Danish Ports happy with new proposition

The government’s expert committee have come up with their proposition for a new harbour act. It suggests such things as that municipality ports should become joint stock companies. The proposition has been received positively by Danish shipping organization Danske Havne.

"We fully endorse the committee's goal of ensuring conditions that counteract the risk of cross-subsidization and ensure fair and equal competition between public and private commercial operators," CEO of Danske Havne, Hans Arne Kristiansen has commented in relation to the proposition.

Danske Havne are particularly happy that models of equal opportunity within the ports are the focus of the proposition, both in terms of funding and operations.
"Equally important is the fact that the recommendations set direction for increased efficiency and consolidation in the sector. Here, marketing of port services have a significant role, "He comments further.

In their comment ragardind the proposition, Danish shipping organization Danske Rederier stated they would have like to see uproar against the geographical and historical conditional special rights that are used by individual ports to compete with private actors.

"On the contrary, it is emphasized in the recommendations that these rights must be maintained and at the same time that other ports will have access to the same opportunities if the market is not effective. What exactly this means, the expert group has unfortunately chosen not to comment on. Dasnke Rederier writes in their comment.
