Bunker One expands Caribbean footprint as key physical supplier St. Croix, US Virgin Island. St. Croix is a soon-to-be Caribbean hub with the recent restart of the (Ex-Hovensa) St. Croix deep conversion refinery, strategically located along all major shipping lanes servicing US crude import & export markets.
By expanding its physical operations into St. Croix, Bunker One is now the leading independent bunker supplier in the Caribbean.
“I am very proud that Bunker One has been selected as the key physical supplier as it aligns perfectly with our expansion plans in the Caribbean. We strive to be our customers’ preferred bunkering partner, and the expansion underlines that this is not just a strategy; we execute!”, says Peter Zachariassen, CEO, Bunker One.
This strategic positioning allows Bunker One to execute its vision to enhance the service, quality, optionality, and value in the bunker business. The MT Desna Star (12551 DWT), a highly specialized bunker tanker fully equipped for bunkering operations, has been added to Bunker One’s fleet for the operation.
The vessel has a capacity of 10.000 metric tons VLSFO and 2,200 metric tons of Low Sulphur Gas oil with high pumping rate capabilities to ensure efficient deliveries and effective operational turnaround. Bunker One will also offer an ex-pipe bunkering solution for vessel working cargo.
The expansion of Bunker One (STX) will be led by Georgia Kounalakis, Managing Director, Bunker One (Gulf of Mexico & Caribbean), and her team. They hold solid local expertise and knowledge.
“Bunker One has an established physical supply platform with a market reputation for high-quality customer service, performance and integrity throughout its operation. The St. Croix expansion provides us with an exceptional opportunity to further support our extensive customer portfolio with broad refuelling optionality for all shipping sectors while complementing our existing supply locations”, says Georgia Kounalakis.
