Growth for the 10th year in a row is something that characterizes the Port of Hirtshals, where the number of truck and trailers for 2018 became 148.000 units in total, which is the largest amount of units the port has ever witnessed. This marks a growth of 6.000 units compared to 2017. On the other hand, the amount of bulk cargo fell a little.

“Naturally it is never good to lose business, but we would like to focus on the fact that we have experienced a noticeable growth in our core business - truck traffic. The Port of Hirtshals has a location that gives a logical reason for creating multimodal and ro-ro solutions from the port, and it is this development we witnessed becoming a reality in 2018 and as well as the last 10 years ”, says Chairman of the Board Anchor Laden-Andersen.

The Port of Hirtshals maintained a quantity of goods of 1.9 million tons in 2018, which is the same number the port witnessed in 2017. in 2018 a gravel operator decided to cancel its activities at the port, which has led to a noticeable decrease in bulk activities at the port. However, the loss in bulk activities is clearly outshined by the growth in truck traffic.
“The results from 2018 shows that our ambition for growth for the coming years are the same as in the past. This can be seen by the devolopment in activities and the activity level that has been accomplished at the Port of Hirtshals in 2018”, says Anker Laden- Andersen.

The Port of Hirtshals is also one of Denmarks largest fishing ports. In 2018, the value of fish landings in the port amounted to 560 million Danish Kroner. This is a growth of 12.7 per cent compared to 2017, when fish landings amounted to 497 million Danish Kroner.
