Fast Ferry between Lolland and Langeland

Fast Ferry between Lolland and Langeland

A fast ferry between Lolland and Langeland is on its way, and Liberal left-wing politician Erling Bonnesen promises that it will become a reality while he is still in the Danish Parliament. The ferry service is close to being a reality, but it could still take a while before the project is completely ready, TV 2 / Funen writes.

"It will happen while I still have my position in the parliament. But a project like this takes a long time. The project has been on and off the agenda numerous times. But now we believe that the Germans are getting the Fehmarn connection fully up and running. When we see this happen, the plans for a freeway will grow nice and steady, "he says to the station.

The project is rather elaborate, seeing as it is necessary to build a dam for the low waters areas in the southern part of the Great Belt connection, so that the ferry can avoid the narrow route in the low fiord. This will cut travel time from 45 to 22 minutes, TV 2 / Funen writes.

According to Erling Bonnesen, it will help the negotiations if the project is not only considered local, but rather that it is presented as a “benefit for all of Denmark," he believes.
"Everybody is interested in making it a reality, but it will not happen tomorrow nor during fall when negotiating a financial act takes place. We have to get the proper preparation done first and then we can divide it into phases. Afterwards, we can argue it connects with a finance act so that it has a natural connection with Fehmarn, "says the left-wing, who speaks on behalf of the party's environmental matters.

The socio-economic gain is achieved by reducing travel time. In order for it to make sense to build the ferry port, construction costs must not exceed 1,26 billion Danish kroner, TV 2 Funen Writes
